Happy Monday, Substackers!
I hope this is the start of a fruitful and productive week! Last week I interviewed Tom Dunsirn, the owner of one of the country’s biggest stoneware companies—Sunset Hill Stoneware in Neenah, Wisconsin, which makes custom mugs and other items for resorts, organizations, and businesses. A few minutes after our interview, I was unloading the dishwasher and saw that I have a couple of Sunset Hill’s mugs of my own that came from a stay at the Broadmoor Resort in Colorado Springs, CO. I love when the universe aligns with coincidences like that! Dunsirn had some inspiring business advice that has been on my mind all week about how being consistent day in and day out has been a key to his success.
That certainly applies to writing!
Something I get asked about a lot, especially by writers who are just starting out, is how to actually make a living as a writer, which is what I want to cover in today’s newsletter. Before that, though, read on to hear what I’m currently working on and recently published work, plus details about the President’s Day Sale going on this week for people who want to become paid subscribers at a discount!
Also—if you’re a paid subscriber and have pitches for PITCH WITCH, send them my way!
What I’m working on this week:
*An article about Pueblo’s unique food hall, Fuel & Iron, and its culinary program for Plate magazine.
*My first article for AFAR, a publication I’ve always wanted to write for, about a Nebraska road trip.
*My e-book, Breaking into Travel Writing (more details on that in the coming weeks!)
Recently published articles:
*This article for Eater about where in Denver to order Manhattans made with Angel’s Envy whiskey.
*An article about some of the unique graveyards within Great Smoky Mountain National Park.
*Wondering what fun stuff to do in Castle Rock, CO? Read this Livability article.
